MANATEE - Arrayed in a rough crescent north and south of the Manatee River and east and west of Interstate 75, eight new community development districts go before Manatee County Commissioners today for approval.
The districts, which will help pay for development of 2,500 acres of Manatee County, would join about 20 other existing CDDs countywide, said Miles Gentry, a Manatee County planner. more...

PARRISH - Motorists could be driving on a wider U.S. 301 between Ellenton and Parrish sooner than expected, but might have to wait longer than ever before they can cross the Manatee River at Fort Hamer.
A recent $13 million state grant could jump-start, by several years, the four-laning of U.S. 301 from Erie Road/Old Tampa Road to Fort Hamer Road. But a $30 million cost increase threatens to delay again the proposed bridge linking Fort Hamer and Upper Manatee River roads. more...

84 Lumber to open second store

MANATEE - The area's second 84 Lumber Co. store is slated to open Monday after the company paid $3.5 million for property formerly used in boat manufacturing.
In September, the privately-owned lumber company bought the 8.14 acres owned by Famous Craft Inc. at 7921 15th St. E., on the east side of 15th Street East and south of Tallevast Road, just north of the Sarasota-Bradenton International Convention Center. Famous Craft Boats, a company that makes family cruisers and fishing boats, moved its manufacturing facility this summer to Anderson, S.C. Lennar projects Q4 loss

MIAMI - Lennar Corp., one of the nation's largest homebuilders, said Tuesday it expected a fourth-quarter loss as the company re-evaluates how much its inventory is worth amid a slowing industry.
The Miami-based company expects a loss within a range of 88 cents per share to $1.28 for its quarter ended Nov. 30 after a pretax charge of up to $500 million for the inventory evaluation. Official earnings for the quarter will be released before the market opens Jan. 17. more...
