Manatee Parks May Be The Next To Go

Spend a few hours at Windmill Manor mobile home park with Jan McMeans and you'll meet an entire neighborhood. "That's my girlfriend's house over there," said McMeans, as the 66-year-old pulled her golf cart over to say hello to the seventh person in a five-minute span. "And over there is a real nice couple. Everybody knows everybody here, and that's why we love it."
Shuffleboard games, bingo and monthly dinners are a way of life in this close-knit community. The place is bustling with activity all day long.
"It's like being up north years ago," she said. "We are a community within a community."
But McMeans is terrified her way of life in the park near Interstate 75 off 53rd Avenue West could be taken away. While her park is not under siege from developers, she thinks it could be only a matter of time. read more
